The fall season is a transitioning time for Florida bass. Water temperatures on West lake Tohopekaliga decrease from the upper 80’s in the summer to the 70’s in the fall. The falling water temperatures on lake Toho excite bass and they become more active, feed more aggressively, and feed for longer periods of time. The increase in activity makes our bass fishing charters productive for longer periods of time. Bass here in the Orlando, Disney world area, begin moving into there prespawn staging areas in large groups this is the beginning of the peak season for lake toho’s truly supersized bass. This is also the beginning of our busiest season for fishing charters, and we begin to book up fast. At this time of year we recommend booking your trophy bass trip as early as possible to ensure that we have guides available for your specific dates. As always our goal here at AJ’s Freelancer Bass Guide Service is to help make your day on lake Toho the most memorable bass fishing experience of your life. We are looking forward to fishing with you!
Now you might ask what is the best way to catch West lake Toho’s trophy sized bass? With out a doubt large wild shiners are always going to give you the best chance at one. For those of you that prefer to fish with artificial lures I always give this advice, and that is to let the weather help make the decision to go with artificials or shiners. If your trip is before a cold front passes through the Kissimmee area than artificial lures can be very productive. But however if your bass fishing adventure is after a cold front your chances of artificials producing numbers of bass goes down dramatically, so I’d recommend the shiner trip after a cold front as you will stand a much better chance at catching a trophy fish of a life time. It is best to make your final decision on either a artificial or shiner trip just before your trip so that the whether can be taken into account. Now that we have talked about which method is best before or after a cold front lets talk a little about what type of artificials are best on Lake Toho at this time of year. The go to baits are, dark colored plastic worms, watermelon colored flukes, swim jigs, flipping jigs, white spinnerbaits, rattle traps, and hard jerkbaits. Along with this time of year also being the best for top water action. And that is a quick overview of what Toho is like in the fall.
